On Thursday morning, an accident occurred in the Sogunle area of Lagos involving a train and a staff bus belonging to the Lagos State Government.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that two bodies have been recovered from the scene of the accident.

The deceased were identified as members of staff of the Lagos State Government.

According to Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for NEMA, the state government staff bus was attempting to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train, coming from Abeokuta, was on the rail. It was reported that the driver of the bus ignored the attempts by flag Officers from the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to stop the bus from crossing before the collision occurred.

Several other persons were injured in the accident and have been evacuated for medical care. Emergency responders present at the scene of the accident include the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), NEMA, Police, FRSC, Civil defense, and the Nigerian Railway Corporation team.

The cause of the accident is yet to be officially determined, but authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic rules, especially when crossing rail tracks to avoid similar incidents.
