The FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has reported that 22 individuals have been successfully rescued from a building collapse in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

The Head of Public Affairs, Mrs. Nkechi Isa, made this announcement in a Thursday statement.

Mrs. Isa also reported that two individuals trapped in the building collapse have passed away.

A collaborative rescue effort is underway by FEMA, NEMA, FRSC, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Department of Development Control, Abuja Metropolitan Management Agency, and the Red Cross.

Additionally, construction companies equipped with heavy-duty machinery are aiding rescue efforts.

The victims have been transported to Wuse, Gwarimpa, Asokoro district hospitals, and the Federal Medical Center for medical attention. The search for any remaining survivors is ongoing. The two-story building, which also had a basement, collapsed earlier in the morning and an unknown number of workers were trapped in the rubble.
