ASUU Strike: Moment Soldiers Were Sent Away By Protesting OAU Students.
- Findings show that the soldiers had jumped out of their convoy to disperse the protesting students after dismantling their roadblocks.
It was gathered that the soldiers who had earlier dismantled the barricade created by the students on the road at Moro area, Osun State, were later confronted by the mass of students who had retreated but regrouped in their numbers.
The regrouped students started chanting solidarity songs to resist the soldiers “we no go gree, we no go gree”, and “Go back, No way” to the soldiers who had seemed helpless at the time.
The students of the institution have staged protests on different occasions mounting roadblocks to demand an end to the ASUU strike.
“We booed them away from the barricade today,” one of the leaders of the protest and a member of the Students’ Union Parliament, Abraham Omowumi, also known as Ewatee, said.
The Public Relations Officer of the Union, Ogunperi Taofeek, also said, “The students of OAU again took to the streets today to protest the lingering ASUU strike.
“About 2:30 pm, some of the barricades mounted were broken by men of the Nigerian Army. However, we resisted them at the last barricade, holding them there until the fixed time for our protest lapsed.”
Ogunperi Taofeek noted that the protest would continue on Monday.
Recall that the military on Tuesday also dispersed protesting students from different public universities in Ondo state dismantling their roadblocks.
The ASUU strike started on the 14th of February with no end in sight.

ASUU, FG meeting deadlocked, lecturers stage walk-out
PUNCH reports that the meeting between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government ended in a deadlock on Tuesday.
ASUU and the FG met for more than 3 hours at the National University Commission headquarters.
According to the report, there was no new development as a source told them the FG only begged members of the union to resume duties and call off the strike.
Confirming the development, a member of the ASUU National Executive Committee who asked not to be quoted explained to a PUNCH correspondent that the government was “unserious” with the negotiations.
“They are not serious. I can’t go over the details with you because the president is responsible for disseminating the information. The proposal presented was unreasonable. There is no hope in sight”.
Although the government is yet to release any statement on what transpired, the ASUU president on his part said, “It wasn’t good”, referring to the meeting.
