Australian Man Dies Just After Reaching the Summit of Mount Everest

A 40-year-old Australian man, Jason Bernard Kennison, passed away shortly after reaching the summit of Mount Everest, according to reports.

Kennison became unresponsive at the summit and was unable to descend safely. His family expressed their grief, stating that he had accomplished his goal of reaching the peak but tragically did not return home.

During the descent, Kennison’s behavior began to change, and two Sherpa guides noticed his abnormal condition. They assisted him down to the balcony area at 8,400 meters above sea level. With their oxygen cylinders running low, the guides decided to descend to Camp 4 with the intention of returning with fresh cylinders to rescue him. Unfortunately, due to strong winds, they were unable to reach the camp in time. Kennison collapsed and died in the treacherous region known as the “death zone” above 8,000 meters. His remains remain on the mountain.

It is noteworthy that Kennison’s climb came 17 years after he was told he might never walk again following a severe car accident in 2006. He used his ascent as an opportunity to raise funds for Spinal Cord Injuries Australia.

This incident marks the tenth fatality on Mount Everest during this climbing season, as reported by Sky News. Nearly 450 climbers have tackled the world’s highest mountain in this season alone, according to Nepal’s tourism department.
