Mrs. Blessing Adeniran, a grieving mother, has spoken out about the tragic loss of her 12-year-old daughter, Desola Whitney Adeniran, who died while attending the inter-house sports event held at Agege Stadium on February 9, 2023.

Mrs. Adeniran stated that an autopsy conducted on her daughter revealed that she died of electrocution.

The heart-wrenching incident, which has left the family devastated, began when Mrs. Adeniran went to the inter-house sports event to watch her daughter participate.

However, during the match past and other sporting events, Mrs. Adeniran became worried when she couldn’t locate her daughter. She went to the area where the students were kept and were informed by a male student that her daughter had fainted and had been rushed to the hospital.

Mrs. Adeniran said her daughter was not ill before the event, and when she asked the doctor at the hospital the cause of her daughter’s death, she was told it appeared to be cardiac arrest.

However, Whitney’s father disputed the school’s claim, stating that his daughter died from electrocution after she touched a naked wire from a cotton candy vendor machine, which caused her to immediately collapse.

However, Whitney’s father claimed his daughter “died from a naked wire from one cotton candy vendor machine after she touched it and she was electrocuted immediately she leaned on it.”

According to him, water was poured on her which killed her immediately.

“I have documented evidence that my child died from electrocution and it was not Cardiac arrest,” he said.

“She was hale and hearty, she was not sick. And let me state it clearly, by the time I saw her corpse, her lips and tongue had already turned black,” Mr. Adeniran told BBC Pidgin

The school’s management, however, appealed to Whitney’s parents to establish a scientific confirmation of the basic cause of her death before her burial.

Chrisland School, where Whitney was a student, explained that two weeks before the inter-house sports event, Whitney had complained of feeling unwell and opted out of participating in the march-past. The school claimed that Whitney died in public view and was immediately rushed to the nearest medical facility for first aid.

Whitney’s father criticized the school’s response, claiming that his daughter died from electrocution and not cardiac arrest. He further stated that by the time he saw her corpse, her lips and tongue had turned black.

In response to the incident, an autopsy was conducted, which revealed that Whitney died from electrocution, according to her mother. Mrs. Adeniran expressed her disappointment with Chrisland Schools for causing her family to undergo the trauma of an autopsy when they could have provided a clear explanation of how her daughter died.

The family is now mourning the loss of Whitney, and Mrs. Adeniran has called out those who “insulted, bullied, and humiliated” her family with the false narrative that her daughter was sick prior to her death, stating that they will be judged by God.
