Drama Looms As Yobe Govt Bans Final Year Students From ‘Immoral, Indecent Graduation Ceremony’
Students in Yobe State as well as principals and proprietors of private and public schools have been issued with a new directive.
The Yobe State Government, through the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, directed the principals and proprietors of private and public schools to work closely with their teachers to ensure that their final year students do not engage in anti-social activities
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Muhammad Sani Idriss gave the directive in a circular titled: “INDECENT AND IMMORAL BEHAVIOURS AND ACTIVITIES OF FINAL YEAR STUDENTS IN THE NAME OF GRADUATION CELEBRATION”.
He noted in the circular that such celebrations where students displayed immoral behaviors and activities that were contrary to beliefs, culture and societal norms, would not be tolerated henceforth.
“The so-called markers day, where students inscribe on and tear their uniforms and also engage in other immoral and indecent mixing of boys and girls is not only contrary to our religious beliefs but is immoral, and unacceptable.
“The Ministry will not fold its arms and watch our students display unethical and immoral behaviors in the name of graduation ceremony”, the Commissioner warned.
He stressed that there were other acceptable ways of expressing happiness which do not go against the culture of the society.
“The Ministry will not hesitate to sanction any school found to have allowed their students to engage in such activity”, he said.
