Ethiopian Delegation Visits Tigray to Discuss Implementation of Peace Agreement.
Ethiopia has sent a high-level delegation to the capital of the rebel-held Tigray region for talks on implementing a peace deal that was signed on November 2nd, 2021.
The agreement aims to disarm rebel forces, re-establish federal authority in Tigray, and reopen access to the region. A joint monitoring body has also been established to ensure that the peace deal is respected by all sides.

The delegation, led by House of Representatives speaker Tagesse Chafo, marks the first time a federal government body of its stature has traveled to Mekele in two years.
The conflict in Tigray, which began in November 2020, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and has been marred by accusations of war crimes and possibly even ethnic cleansing. While aid has started to return to the region since the peace deal was signed, Tigray remains largely without electricity and phone lines, and internet and banking services have only partially been restored.
Pro-government forces, including troops from Eritrea and militias from the Ethiopian region of Amhara, are not mentioned in the peace deal but remain in Tigray and have been accused of abuses.
