Ethiopian Man Challenges Current Ghanaian Titleholder For World’s Tallest Individual.
An Ethiopian man named Negewo Jima has recently claimed on social media that he is taller than a Ghanaian man who was reported by the BBC to be the tallest man in the world.
The Ghanaian man, Sulemana Abdul Samed, was measured by a local hospital at 9 ft 6in (2.89m), but the hospital lacks the proper tools to confirm this measurement.
And though the reporter informed Samed that the local hospital‘s measurement was incorrect, the 29-year-old replied by saying he could reach the height of the world’s tallest man because he’s still growing.
“I’m still growing tall. Who knows, maybe one day I may get to that height too,” Samed said. “Every three months or four months I grow… If you’ve not seen me for three months or four and you see me, you’d realise I have increased.”
Jima, whose height is 7 ft 4.6in (225cm), posted a photo collage on Facebook of himself and Samed with the caption “never give up” and stated that Samed is not “longer” than him. When measured by a BBC reporter, Samed’s height was found to be 7 ft 4in, making Jima taller.
Samed, who has been diagnosed with gigantism, a rare condition that causes excessive height in children and adolescents due to high levels of growth hormone, believes he may one day reach the height of the current Guinness World Record holder for tallest man, Turkish national Sultan Kösen, who stands at 8 ft 2.8in.
“Gigantism is treatable, but early diagnosis is crucial to prevent excessive height and other complications,” Cleveland clinic said.
But despite his diagnosis and health issues, Samed said he doesn’t have a problem with his condition. “That is how Allah chose it for me, I am OK. I don’t have a problem with the way God created me,” he said.
