Unknown gunmen on Sunday kidnapped four Reverend sisters of the Catholic Church in Imo state while allegedly on their way to morning mass.

According to news reports, the reverend sisters were kidnapped at the dreaded Okigwe-Enugu Road which has witnessed heightened incidences of kidnapping and has become a safe haven for kidnappers and armed robbers.

In a statement released and captured by Choc News, the four victims are sisters Johannes Nwodo, Christabel Echemazu, Liberata Mbamalu, and Benita Agu.

The statement issued by The Sisters Of Jesus The Saviour (Generalate) disclosed that the Catholic sisters were abducted at the Okigwe-Umulolo area of the Expressway.

The statement reads;

“Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, it is with great pain that we bring to your notice the kidnapping of four of our sisters mentioned above.

“The sad event of their abduction occurred around Okigwe- Umulolo area this morning shortly after the sisters were on their way to thanksgiving mass of our sister.

“We implore for an intense prayer for their quick and safe release. May Jesus the savior listen to our prayers and may our mother Mary intercede for the unconditional release of our dear sisters.”

This is one too many reports of abductions targeted at members of the priesthood leading to speculations that Catholic priests have become prime targets for kidnappers.

Recall that a Catholic Bishop was recently kidnapped in that axis, and two Nollywood actors who were kidnapped in that region were also recently released.
