Gender-Based Violence Court sitting at Police Headquarters, Accra has sentenced a Nigerian, Efe James Edema to 15 years imprisonment for the abduction and defilement of a 14-year-old girl.

The court convicted Efe, 19 after he pleaded guilty to the charges of abducting and defiling a minor.

According to a report by GNA, the prosecution led by one inspector Opoku Aniagyei narrated that the complainant was the victim’s father.

Inspector Opoku said that while the victim and her father lived in Ayikuma, Edema lived in Nungua but came to work in Ayikuma and befriended the victim and her family last year.

According to the account by the prosecution, sometime in September this year, Edema informed the complainant that he was done with his job at Ayikuma and would be returning back to Nungua.

But to the complainant’s surprise, on that same day in September, the prosecution said the complainant discovered his daughter, the victim was nowhere to be found, after the departure of Edema.

The prosecution said the complainant went in search of the victim but she was not found, after which the complainant filed a report to the Police in Ayikuma on September 11, 2022.

The prosecution said the complainant thereafter shared the pictures of his daughter, the victim on his social media statuses as a missing person. He was informed by some of his brothers in Nungua that they had seen a young girl who resembled his daughter, the victim, in Nungua in the company of Edema.

The prosecution said the complainant told his brothers to take snapshots of the supposed victim and the accused, Edema, and forward them to him, to which they complied.

When the pictures were forwarded to the complainant, he identified the victim and the accused.

The prosecution said the complainant went to Nungua Police Station with an Extract of Occurrence from Ayikuma Domestic Violence and Victims Support unit for assistance, after which the accused was apprehended.
