“I’m 43% Nigerian”- Reveals Prince Harry’s Wife Meghan Markle.
The wife of the Duke of Sussex, Meghan Markle, also a Duchess, has made a significant revelation about her genealogy, which stirred up conversations online yesterday about her being 43% of Nigerian ancestry.
According to media reports, she threw the bombshell during the latest episode of her weekly podcast, Archetypes.
Meghan Markle revealed that she has Nigerian roots as part of her conversation with other discussants on the show.
Markle said she is 43% Nigerian and expressed her desire to learn more about her roots.
In the episode, Mirrors UK reported that in her discussion with American actress Issa Rae, Nigerian-American writer Ziwe Fumudoh, and professor Emily Bernards, the Duchess of Sussex stated that she took a genealogy test some years back which revealed her roots.
She said, “I just had my genealogy done a couple of years ago.” When her guests asked her to share the results, the Duchess said, “I’m 43% Nigerian,” to the shock of Ziwe, who responded, “No way!”.
Ziwe further asked, “Are you serious? This is huge. Igbo, Yoruba, do we know?” The Duchess of Sussex then answered, “I’m going to start to dig deeper into all of this because anyone that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are just like, what?” The podcast revelation was the first time Meghan opened up about her ancestral background on the public stage.
