Choc News is delighted to announce the launch of the University of Birmingham DeepMind Scholarships for the academic year 2023/2024.

This prestigious scholarship opportunity, generously funded by DeepMind, is aimed at international students pursuing the MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program at the School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham.

The University of Birmingham, in collaboration with DeepMind, is dedicated to promoting accessibility and diversity in computer science. The MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning program offers students a remarkable chance to explore and pursue a rewarding career in the field of AI.

As AI systems play an increasingly significant role in our lives, ensuring diversity and inclusion in expertise becomes essential for a fair and equitable society.

These scholarships are designed to support talented students in advancing their aspirations and pursuing careers in cutting-edge industries and research fields. With a focus on increasing representation, the scholarships are open to applicants who identify as female or belong to the Black African, Black Caribbean, or other Black ethnicities.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must meet either one or both of the following criteria and fulfill additional requirements:

  • Identify as female or identify as Black African, Black Caribbean, or other Black ethnicity.
  • Demonstrate financial need and an inability to pursue the program without financial assistance.
  • Hold a conditional or unconditional offer to study the MSc Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at the University of Birmingham.
  • Be ordinarily resident in the UK and classified as UK for fee-paying purposes or be classified as an international student for fee-paying purposes.

Applications will be evaluated by a selection panel at the School of Computer Science based on the eligibility categories mentioned above, as well as any additional supporting documentation required. The scholarship offer may be conditional until all academic offer conditions are met.

The scholarship is valued at £52,565 and covers various aspects, including international tuition fees (£27,540), a maintenance grant of £19,345 for living costs (paid in installments over the course duration), funding of up to £2,200 to attend an international conference in the field of AI and/or Machine Learning, and £1,700 towards the purchase of essential equipment such as a suitable laptop.
