iPhone 14’s Emergency SOS Via Satellite Feature And More.
The new iPhone 14 released by Apple launched with some amazing features including a new, larger 6.7-inch size design, a new dual-camera system, and Crash Detection.
iPhone 14 also sports an Emergency SOS Via Satellite Feature and a smartphone industry-first safety service.
The smartphone is equipped with what Apple describes as the best battery life on iPhone.
To understand the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, iFixit has disassembled iPhone 14 and said it has a Qualcomm X65 chip that can talk to satellites.
The feature has the ability to connect to satellites in the absence of a Wi-Fi or cellular connection on your device when there is an emergency or you find yourself in a remote area without a cellular or wireless telecommunication service.
The Qualcomm chip provides 5G connectivity for cellular networks but is also capable of using what is called band N53, the frequency band used by satellites from Globalstar.

Globalstar had said earlier that a deal was on the table in which Apple will take up to 85% of Globalstar’s satellite network capacity to power Apple’s new emergency messaging feature.
One of the major new features is the ability to connect to satellites to send emergency messages when there is no Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.
Apple in their release noted that “iPhone 14 includes custom radio frequency components, and new software designed entirely by Apple, that together enables Emergency SOS via satellite on new iPhone 14 models.”
There were earlier media reports saying Apple and SpaceX were also discussing how to connect Starlink’s IPO to iPhone 14.
