Man Kept Mother’s Mummified Body On His Couch For 13 Years, Arrested.
- The man dug up his mother’s body from a graveyard.
A shocking incident has come to light in Radlin, Poland, where a man has been arrested for keeping his mother’s mummified body on his sofa for over a decade.
According to a report by UK-based Express, the man identified only as Marian L, was apprehended by the police after his brother-in-law visited his house and discovered the body.
On February 22, the 76-year-old relative found Marian wandering outside looking disturbed, and upon searching the house, he found the mummified body propped up on the sofa, on top of a pile of newspapers from 2009.
The police were informed by a family member of the apartment owner, and upon arriving at the scene, they discovered the mummified corpse in the elderly man’s apartment. The authorities suspected that the body was that of the man’s mother, who had passed away in 2010 at the age of 95.
To confirm their suspicions, they searched the mother’s grave and found it empty, as reported by 7news.com.au. It is believed that the man dug up his mother’s body soon after her burial and used chemicals to embalm it at his apartment.
District Prosecutor’s Office prosecutor Joanna Smorczewska has stated that the man has been charged with interfering with a corpse and will undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his state of health.
The police spokesperson, Malgorzata Koniarska, was quoted as saying by Express that “we received a report in connection with the disclosure of the body from a family member of the owner of the apartment,” highlighting the man’s family’s involvement in reporting the incident.
The discovery of the mummified body has shocked the local community and sparked discussions about mental health issues and the need for better support systems for individuals struggling with such conditions.
