Rowan Pelling, who has not spoken to her own father-in-law in five years, has shared her thoughts on the strained relationship between Meghan Markle and the royal family.

In an article entitled “Memo to Meghan: Letting your husband take your side against his family never ends well,” Pelling urged the couple to try to reconcile with Buckingham Palace and encouraged Meghan to try to understand the royal family’s perspective.

She also encourages Harry to help his wife repair her relationship with her father.

Pelling noted the difficulties of being an in-law and the importance of putting family unity first. She also referenced the shared grief of Harry and his brother William, suggesting that estrangement can only deepen their wound.

“As an in-law, you can either encourage your other half to try and better understand their family members’ points of view (which is not the same thing as agreeing with them) or you can amplify their sense of outrage.

“As I fully appreciate, this is harder when your husband’s family don’t appear to endorse you enthusiastically as his life partner.”

Harry was present in London for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, but he’s since brought out a six-part Netflix expose alongside Meghan.

Elizabeth’s death in September meant Harry’s father Charles is now King and is reportedly planning to slim down the royal household.

Harry’s relationship with his brother William has suffered through the messy separation after the pair were united in grief aged 12 and 15 when their mother Diana died.

“These two men have suffered a terrible early bereavement that only the pair of them can fully comprehend, and estrangement can only deepen the wound,” Pelling added.
