Nigeria To Hold Nationwide Census After Elections - NPC

The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Kwarra, announced that the next census will take place from March 29 to April 2, 2023.

The exercise will commence two weeks after the conclusion of the presidential, governorship, national, and state assembly elections scheduled for February 25 and March 11.

Kwarra stated that advanced technology will be utilized in the census, including tools to code buildings and landmass to ensure credibility. He also emphasized that everyone in the country at the time of the census, including non-Nigerians, will be counted.

He highlighted that this census will be different from past ones, as high-end technology will be used to make it transparent, fast, and verifiable at the local government and ward levels.

The NPC has also completed the demarcation of areas and opened a dedicated portal to recruit ad-hoc staff for the census, who will be deployed to work in their localities.

Kwarra expressed hope that security challenges in some parts of the country will not hinder the smooth conduct of the exercise.
