On the day of PDP presidential primary, I was at the office of National Secretary of the PDP when Mr. Peter Obi called me to discuss his political plans.
He told me that he would put every energy to fight the 2023 presidential election because of the honor of Nigerian people. He promised to deliver Nigeria from the present quagmire. He was not sure he would win but he said he would give it all he has to make sure Nigeria is saved.
One high point of that conversation was when he said “Sam, look I will travel all over the world to mobilize Nigerians. If they fly their first class, I will fly economy class. I will follow them everywhere. I will go everywhere for this cause.”
Now, I am hearing that the man has traveled to six different places to speak in six days. It has been like a whirlwind. This is energy that comes from acuity of mind and lightness of being.
I study effective leadership and management strategies. Good energy level and clarity of mind are two important indicators of effectiveness in top level leadership and management.
These two indicators are helped immensely by lightness of being. Peter Obi is remarkable in his simplicity and economy. This helps to conserve energy and focus attention on priorities. These[sic] is an excellent minimalism in his being and style that adduces to effectiveness.
I hope every leader at every level of public service in Nigeria can emulate this minimalism. It will be both efficient and effective.
