Mr Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State and frontline presidential candidate of the Labour party for the 2023 elections has used the occasion of the Islamic New Year Day to send a warm message to Nigeria’s Muslim population.

His post read, “As our Muslim brothers and sisters mark the Hijri, the Islamic New Year Day, on this 30th day of July, I wish them peace, love, good health, and prosperity. In the spirit of the new Islamic year, let us embrace ourselves in brotherhood and love.

“I pray for unity of our people and safety of our citizens throughout the Nation. In this new season, may we renew within us the spirit of oneness and nationhood to enable us overcome our many challenges in the months ahead. As-salamu alaykum. #PeterObi 🇳🇬 ”

The post which received thousands of engagements from supporters across the nation praised him for his thoughtfulness, while some referred to him as the actual “unifier”.

Former governor Peter Obi was the vice presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 presidential elections in which Atiku Abubakar was the flag bearer. Since that time, Peter Obi’s candidature has continued to rekindle hope across the nation, especially among the social media-savvy youth population.
