A hiker who went hiking with his girlfriend in the mountains has been found dead after he went to find help and water for his sweetheart.

The incident happened in Southern California on Thursday when he was declared missing and a search party went looking for him.

According to NBC reports, Tim Sgrignoli, 29, was found dead near a trail near Santa Barbara, as the search for his body ended on Thursday citing a sheriff’s spokeswoman.

The report says “no foul play was suspected and heat is thought to be a contributing factor, she said. The cause of death was not known.”

“Sgrignoli’s girlfriend was suffering from mild heat exhaustion when he left to find help and water. Temperatures on the mountain reached 114 degrees Sunday afternoon as authorities searched for him,” Safechuck said.

During his disappearance, NBC noted that there was a “heat dome” which settled over much of California, “unleashing a blast of scorching temperatures across much of the state.”

The identity of the girlfriend of the victim is yet to be disclosed as she was rescued on Sunday, and the police did not also disclose her condition.

Authorities continued looking for Sgrignoli on Monday, with drones, dogs, helicopters, and search and rescue personnel, Safechuck said.

His body was found at 9:29 a.m. Thursday between Trespass Trail and Highway 101, the sheriff’s office said.
