A tragic incident took place in the Danmusa local government area of Katsina State, where over 22 individuals lost their lives as bandits attacked traders en route to the Yantumaki market.

The assailants, identified as bandits, engaged in a deadly encounter with operatives from the Katsina State Police Command, resulting in casualties on both sides.

Reports indicate that the security forces, responding to the bandit attack, initiated a gun duel that led to the death of six villagers. The security operatives successfully neutralized approximately 26 bandits during the intense exchange of gunfire.

Dr. Nasiru Muazu-Danmusa, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, confirmed the tragic incident to NAN on Saturday. He expressed condemnation for the bandit attack on traders heading to the Yantumaki market from Maidabino.

According to Muazu-Danmusa, the bandits set up an ambush against the traders, resulting in the death of six individuals and injuries to others, including two security personnel escorting the traders. The Commissioner provided additional details, stating that at least 16 of the terrorists were killed by security operatives at the scene, with several others managing to escape with gunshot wounds.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Muazu-Danmusa claimed significant progress in combating cattle rustling, banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in the state since the inception of Governor Dikko Radda’s administration. He asserted that the problem has seen a reduction of about 60%, as per reliable information received across the state.

However, Muazu-Danmusa acknowledged the evolving tactics employed by terrorists, necessitating a continuous and adaptive response to counter their heinous acts. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in addressing complex security threats in the region.
