Tukur Mamu, the hostage negotiator for the release of kidnapped victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack on March 28, 2022, has been arrested on his arrival in Cairo, Egypt.

Daily Trust reports that he was arrested by the Egyptian authorities on his arrival into the country with his family.

The Newspaper revealed that the publisher is accusing the Federal Government of being behind his arrest and that the Egyptian authorities were currently processing his deportation back to Nigeria from Egypt at the time of filing the report.

Tukur arrived in Nigeria from Egypt and was subsequently arrested by the DSS.

Premium Times reported that the negotiator arrived at Mallam Aminu Kano Airport at exactly 1.58 pm today.

“Mr. Mamu who also doubles as the spokesperson for the Kaduna-based cleric, Ahmad Gumi, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon at the Aminu Kano International Airport in North-west Nigeria upon his arrival from Egypt

“Mr. Mamu told PREMIUM TIMES he was arrested and detained by officials of the SSS.

“He was accompanied by his two wives and one other person.” Premium Times reported.

Who is Tukur Mamu?

Tukur Mamu negotiated the release of some of the hostages in the March 2022 train abduction in Kaduna.

Mr. Mamu is a Kaduna-based publisher of the Desert Herald and doubles as the spokesperson for Ahmad Gumi, a popular Kaduna-based cleric who was vocal earlier in the year about the activities of Bandits, visiting some of their enclaves.

He has been behind the release of batches of the train kidnap victims until according to him, the demands of the kidnappers became “unrealistic”.
