The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially confirmed that Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy under President Bola Tinubu, is indeed a current serving corps member.

This revelation follows claims made by Emmanuel Onwubiko, Director of the Human Rights Writers Association (Huriwa), that Musawa is currently posted as a corps member at a law firm situated in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

It is noteworthy that Hannatu Musawa was the final nominee for ministerial screening during her nomination, which was overseen by the Akpabio-led Senate.

During the screening process, she received the privilege of a non-interrogatory “bow and go” session, bypassing questions regarding her academic qualifications, including the controversy surrounding her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate.

Emmanuel Onwubiko’s statement also revealed that Hannatu Musawa faced previous setbacks in her political career. The 9th Senate, led by Ahmed Lawan, rejected her nomination as a commissioner representing the Northwest at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM), primarily due to her inability to provide her NYSC certificate as required.

Furthermore, Onwubiko disclosed that Musawa had previously abandoned her NYSC service in Ebonyi State, but later expressed her intention to complete the program. She was subsequently mobilized for the program in 2023 before President Tinubu selected her as a ministerial nominee.

Confirming the assertions made by Emmanuel Onwubiko, Eddy Megwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations at NYSC headquarters, confirmed to TheCable on Thursday that Hannatu Musawa is, indeed, a serving corps member. Megwa’s statement, “Yes, she is a serving corps member,” provided official confirmation of the ongoing service.

Despite the revelation and the subsequent confirmation, Hannatu Musawa has refrained from issuing an official statement regarding this development.
