A 5-year-old mongrel named Koume in Japan has been hailed as a hero for saving the life of a man who had a heart attack at a horse riding club in Wakaba-ku, Chiba city. The incident took place on February 25, and Koume intervened at the right time to save the man’s life.

Koume’s incessant barking alerted the staff and people at the park, who immediately rushed to the scene and called for medical assistance. The dog’s keen sense of awareness and quick thinking saved the man’s life, and Koume was awarded a certificate of appreciation by local fire officials at a special ceremony last month.

According to CNN, Koume had previously drawn attention to other emergencies at the facility. The dog had noticed a horse trying to flee the park by jumping a fence and had also alerted the staff when an old horse was having difficulties standing on its own.

Yuna Maruo, a 23-year-old riding instructor who was one of those who helped save the man that day, said that Koume was usually quiet and barked only under rare circumstances. “But when an emergency arises, Koume does bark,” Maruo said.

The fire department also appreciated Koume’s actions. “Koume’s action in calling for help and the staff’s actions were a perfect response,” a fire department official was quoted as saying by CNN.

Thanks to the timely response of the staff members and people at the park, the man who had the heart attack has since returned to riding at the club.

In conclusion, Koume’s heroism in saving a man’s life is an inspiring story of the bond between humans and animals and the remarkable abilities of our furry friends.
