Nuhu Ribadu, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police and former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially taken up the position of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), succeeding Maj-Gen Babagana Monguno (retd).

During a brief event held in Abuja, Ribadu expressed his commitment to meeting the expectations of Nigerians and ensuring the safety and security of the country.

He pledged to stabilize Nigeria, secure the nation, and work towards peace, order, and upholding the rule of law, aligning Nigeria with other peaceful nations in the world.

Ribadu acknowledged that securing the nation is an ongoing process and emphasized the importance of building upon previous efforts. He called for the support of all stakeholders in discharging their responsibilities and highlighted the President’s dedication to securing every part of Nigeria.

“This enormous task of securing our country is that of all Nigerians and all friends of Nigeria,” Ribadu concluded, according to the NSA Office’s report.

Nuhu Ribadu previously served as the Special Adviser on Security to President Bola Tinubu on June 15, 2023. However, following a significant shake-up in Nigeria’s security architecture, Monguno retired as NSA, and Ribadu was appointed as his replacement just four days later.

Born on November 21, 1960, in Adamawa State, Ribadu is renowned for his tenure as the EFCC chairman from 2003 to 2007. Notably, he successfully prosecuted and secured the conviction of Tafa Balogun, the former Inspector-General of Police, who was ordered to return approximately £150 million through a plea bargain arrangement.

Ribadu holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, and a Master of Laws degree from the same institution.

As Nigeria’s new National Security Adviser, Ribadu assumes a crucial role in addressing the security challenges faced by the country and implementing measures to enhance safety and stability nationwide.
