Security Operatives Nab 6 Men Involved in Gang Rape of 19-year-old Girl in Anambra.
Anambra State, Nigeria – In a joint effort between security operatives and the Anambra State government, six suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal gang rape of a 19-year-old girl within the state.
The distressing incident took place in Anam community, located in the Anambra West Local Government Area. The suspects, aged between 16 and 27, orchestrated the heinous act by ambushing the victim and coercing her into a room where they took turns assaulting her.
Commissioner Ify Obinabo, responsible for Women and Social Welfare, collaborated with security operatives to apprehend the suspects. Obinabo emphasized that not only was the victim successfully rescued, but the suspects were also apprehended and subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department of Police in Awka. They will face charges in court for their abhorrent crime.
Expressing concern over the rising rate of delinquency in Anambra, Obinabo stated, “The high rate of crimes amongst delinquents in Anambra is alarming. Parents and guardians should stop sparing the rod and thereby spoil the child. The administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo will not allow any form of crime to strive in the state; justice will take its full course.”
During the interrogation process, the victim disclosed the harrowing details of the incident. She revealed that the assault occurred while she was visiting her maternal home in Oramaetiti, where she was ambushed by a group of boys. They forcibly took her to a room, subjecting her to repeated sexual assaults.
Despite her pleas, the perpetrators persisted, even capturing the ordeal on film. Eventually, neighbors heard her cries for help and came to her rescue. After the incident, the victim made her way home but was accosted by another group of boys who harassed her, forcing her to surrender her underwear under threat of harm.
Fortunately, a compassionate individual later escorted her back to her parents’ house. The victim’s mother, speaking anonymously, disclosed that her daughter was the third victim of the alleged rape suspects. She expressed concern that their daughter’s life was at risk, as the suspects were known to rape girls and collect their undergarments, often leading to the victims’ demise over time.
The distraught mother pleaded with the state government not to overlook the severity of the case, emphasizing the danger her daughter faced. She also implored authorities to expedite the retrieval of her daughter’s personal belongings.
The apprehension of these suspects offers a glimmer of hope for justice in a community plagued by such heinous acts. The authorities must now ensure a thorough investigation and a fair trial to provide a sense of closure and security for the victim and her family.
