Government of Mauritius Offers Full Scholarships to African Students for 2024 Academic Year

In a recent announcement, the Government of Mauritius has extended a scholarship program to eligible students who are citizens residing in member states of the African Union or African Commonwealth countries.

The initiative aims to support students pursuing full-time on-campus programs, including Diplomas, Degrees, MPhil, or PhD, at public Higher Education Institutions in Mauritius for the academic year commencing in 2024.

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have applied for a program at a designated institution listed in Section 8 of the relevant Guidelines for Applicants.

The duration of the scholarship will cover the maximum duration of the chosen program or the minimum course duration, whichever is less.

Key Criteria for Applicants:

Undergraduate Programs:

  • Applicants should be above 18 years of age.
  • Age should not exceed 26 years by January 1, 2025.

MPhil/PhD Programs:

  • Applicants should not have reached 40 years by January 1, 2025.

Eligible Countries: Applicants from various countries, including but not limited to Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zimbabwe, are eligible for the scholarship.

Scholarship Benefits: The scholarship covers tuition fees, contributing to living expenses. It includes a return airfare via the most economical route at the beginning and upon completion of studies.

Timeline:

  • Intake: July to September 2024
  • Deadline for electronic submission: April 19, 2024
  • Hard copy submission deadline: April 26, 2024

Application Procedure

Interested candidates should submit applications and supporting documents to the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Mauritius. The application form and additional details can be found [here].

Completed forms and supporting documents should be emailed to studymauritius@govmu.org or sent as hard copies to the specified address before the deadline on April 26, 2024.
