Facebook Probably Owes You Money: Here’s How You Can Claim It.

Facebook’s parent company Meta has agreed to pay a total of $725 million to its users to settle a lawsuit against the tech giant.

The lawsuit alleged that Facebook shared users’ data without their consent, and did not properly monitor third parties given access to users’ data. The lawsuits were later consolidated into a class-action lawsuit against Facebook.

Although Facebook denied the allegations, it has agreed to settle the case by paying the settlement amount. The settlement is a significant step in Facebook’s ongoing efforts to regain trust after the Cambridge Analytica scandal in 2018, which saw the personal data of up to 87 million users improperly shared with a political consultancy.

So, who is eligible to claim the settlement?

Users who were using Facebook between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022, can claim a part of the settlement amount if they meet certain conditions. This means that users who do not have a Facebook account currently but used the platform between the mentioned dates can claim the amount as well.

However, only those in the US or users who were residing in the US during the mentioned period are entitled to the settlement money.

To claim the settlement, users need to fill up an online claim form by August 25, 2023. The form requires users to provide personal details such as name, address, phone number, country, and email address, as well as choose the payment method. The settlement money will be transferred to the users via their preferred payment method.

This settlement is a significant step in Facebook’s efforts to regain trust following the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Eligible users can claim the settlement money by filling up an online claim form by August 25, 2023, and choosing their preferred payment method.
