Over 50 Prospective Jurors Excused in Trump's Hush Money Trial

Over 50 potential jurors were dismissed from the trial of former President Donald Trump after expressing concerns about their ability to render a fair and impartial verdict.

The trial, taking place in New York, centers on allegations that Trump orchestrated hush money payments to a porn star with whom he purportedly had an affair.

Ninety-six individuals were convened in a New York court to undergo screening for their suitability as jurors in Trump’s trial. However, numerous prospective jurors, including one short-haired woman, cited their inability to be fair as they exited the courtroom. Additionally, at least nine others were excused for various reasons upon questioning by Judge Juan Merchan.

Merchan disclosed that the court has a pool of up to 500 Manhattan residents to select the jury tasked with adjudicating one of the most high-profile cases involving Trump. Jurors must complete a questionnaire probing their affiliations with far-right groups associated with the former president.

Amid heightened security measures in the courtroom, more than a dozen court officers were stationed to oversee the proceedings. The selection process, expected to span up to two weeks, aims to choose 12 jurors granted anonymity to safeguard against potential bribery or harm.

Trump faces allegations of falsifying business records to conceal an alleged extramarital encounter with adult film actress Stormy Daniels during his 2016 election campaign. Other criminal cases piled up against the former president include Trump’s involvement in other legal battles, including accusations of mishandling classified documents post-presidency and attempting to overturn his 2020 election defeat to President Joe Biden.
