Whistleblower Exposes Alleged Aso Rock Renovation Scandal: Julius Berger’s ₦13 Billion Project Under Scrutiny.
August 25, 2023 – Nigeria: Startling allegations have emerged regarding the recent renovation of the Aso Rock presidential villa, with a whistleblower revealing that Julius Berger Construction Company executed the project at an estimated cost of ₦13,969,262,220.74 (Thirteen billion, nine hundred and sixty-nine million, two hundred and sixty-two thousand, two hundred and twenty naira, seventy-four kobo) within a span of nine months.
The whistleblower, known as @PIDOMNIGERIA, brought the issue to public attention in a memo obtained by News Band.
The memo raises questions about the legitimacy and financial implications of the renovation work carried out by Julius Berger, a renowned construction company.
The memo asserts that the renovation project, which took place between September 2022 and June 2023, led to the alleged payment of a staggering ₦13 billion sum.
Notably, the whistleblower questioned the rationale behind such a significant expenditure for what they claimed was primarily painting and minor repair works. It was noted that the renovation did not involve any significant structural additions or extensions to the presidential villa.
The memo also raised concerns about the timing of the payments and the involvement of Trucrete Solutions Limited, a Nigerian company, which allegedly submitted a request for ₦3,743,396,514.99 (Three billion, seven hundred and forty-three million, three hundred and ninety-six thousand, five hundred and fourteen naira, ninety-nine kobo) for unfinished interior renovations of the Aso Rock. This request came just two months after the alleged completion of the Julius Berger project.
The whistleblower posed a series of questions, including inquiries about the ownership of Trucrete Solutions Limited, the authority behind awarding the additional renovation contract to them, and the transparency of the financial transactions involved.
The memo implied that the renovation costs, as well as the emergence of new players in the project, raised concerns about potential mismanagement of funds and lack of accountability within the government’s contracts.
Julius Berger Construction Company and Trucrete Solutions Limited have yet to respond to the allegations presented by the whistleblower.
The controversy surrounding the alleged excessive expenditure on the Aso Rock renovation has prompted heightened scrutiny, as Nigerians seek transparency and accountability in government spending.
