Uganda Woman Declared Wanted After Allegedly Kidnapping Son to Extort $1K From Husband

Kampala, UgandaSeptember 14, 2023 – A Ugandan woman is currently being sought by authorities after allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of her own son in a bid to extort approximately $1,000 from her husband.

The incident has prompted a manhunt by law enforcement in Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

The Alleged Scheme

The suspect, identified as Justin Namuleme, is believed to have fabricated the story of her son’s abduction to deceive her husband, Stephen Wasinga. Allegedly, Namuleme informed her spouse that their 5-year-old son had been abducted, and the captors were demanding a ransom for his release.

Report to Authorities

Deeply concerned for their child’s safety, Wasinga immediately reported the supposed kidnapping to the local police. Upon returning home after filing the report, he discovered a note on his doorstep, instructing him to pay the ransom. Strangely, Namuleme was present at home during this discovery.

Inconsistent Accounts

Wasinga subsequently returned to the police station, sharing the contents of the note with the authorities. His wife was also summoned to the police station to provide her account of how the note appeared and the circumstances of their child’s disappearance.

Notably, the child had been under his mother’s care when she claimed he was kidnapped.

However, Namuleme’s explanation of the events surrounding their son’s supposed kidnapping reportedly raised suspicions due to inconsistencies.

Realizing that she might be exposed, she fled through the back door and has been evading authorities since. Fortunately, a motorcycle taxi rider later returned their son safely.

Potential Motive

In the aftermath of this bizarre incident, Wasinga has expressed his suspicions that his wife may have devised this criminal plan to obtain funds to repay debts she owed.

He remarked, “I have seen several people coming to our home inquiring about my wife and demanding money from her. I don’t understand the reason for these loans, and now I’m suspicious she intended to acquire money through ransom to clear the debts.”

Authorities continue their efforts to locate and apprehend Justin Namuleme as they investigate the details of this peculiar case.
