The Bauchi Police Command has taken a 24-year-old woman, Furera Abubakar, into custody following allegations of the murder of her four-day-old stepchild in Bantu village, located within Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which took place on August 19, 2023, was brought to the attention of the Ningi Divisional Police headquarters.

Reports indicate that Furera entered her co-wife’s room with a liquid insecticide, which she applied to the unhealed umbilical cord of the newborn. The suspected corrosive substance, upon contact with the infant, led to a rapid deterioration of the baby’s health, culminating in her tragic death.

This led to the swift arrest of Furera, who is now in police custody pending further investigations.
