Israel’s far-right leader and minister, Amihai Eliyahu, made a controversial statement regarding Gaza’s situation, suggesting that “dropping a nuclear bomb” on the region is one of the possibilities in the ongoing conflict with Hamas.

This statement has drawn significant attention and criticism from various quarters. Notably, Minister Eliyahu is not a part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s security cabinet.

In an interview with Radio Kol Berama, he was asked about the use of atomic bombs in Gaza, to which he replied, “This is one of the possibilities.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu swiftly reacted to his minister’s statement, asserting that these remarks were “not based on reality.” He highlighted that the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) operate in compliance with the highest international standards to minimize harm to innocent civilians. He pledged to continue these efforts until a resolution is achieved.

Mr. Eliyahu later clarified his statement, suggesting that it was metaphorical and intended to emphasize the need for a strong and proportionate response to terrorism.

He added, “It is clear that the State of Israel is committed to doing everything possible to return the hostages safe and sound.”

The recent developments come amidst the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, which began following the brutal attacks on Israel on October 7. This conflict has already claimed the lives of over 1,400 individuals, primarily civilians, due to the violence unleashed by Hamas.

The region has witnessed a severe transformation into an apocalyptic battleground with relentless air strikes and ground assaults by the Israeli Defense Forces. Tanks, infantry, and armored personnel carriers (APCs) are now operating in Gaza, with Hamas operatives describing the situation as an “intense battle.”

Footage released by the Israeli Defense Forces showcases their military operations in the northern Gaza Strip, as well as airstrikes targeting the Gaza Strip.

The health ministry in Gaza reports a devastating death toll, with nearly 9,500 casualties, predominantly women and children.
