Several Muslim-majority nations have reacted with outrage following the desecration of a copy of the Quran in Sweden.

The incident involved a man of Iraqi Christian origin living in Stockholm who kicked and stood on the Quran outside the Iraqi Embassy, triggering demonstrations and protests.

In response to the incident, protests have been planned in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon, with demonstrators expressing their anger over the act.

The Iranian Foreign Minister has written a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General to address the issue, while the Iraqi Prime Minister has ordered the expulsion of the Swedish ambassador and the withdrawal of the Iraqi charge d’affaires from Sweden.

Hezbollah, a Shiite militant group based in Lebanon, has also called for demonstrations, and Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey have summoned Swedish diplomats to condemn the desecration.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister has strongly condemned the events and called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to take action in expressing the sentiments of Muslims and stop further incidents.

The right to hold public demonstrations is protected by Sweden’s constitution, and blasphemy laws have been abandoned in the country. However, Quran burnings have sparked protests in the past, leading to concerns over potential disruptions or safety risks.

The incident in Sweden is the second Quran desecration involving the same Iraqi Christian man, Salwan Momika.

The burning of the Quran is deeply offensive to Muslims and has led to protests in Afghanistan, with the Taliban suspending Swedish organizations’ activities in the country.
