Pakistan Police Bust Organ Trafficking Ring That Surgically Removed Kidneys From Hundreds

Pakistan – In a significant breakthrough, Pakistani police have dismantled an organ trafficking ring led by a notorious doctor, according to a CNN report.

The operation has resulted in the arrest of eight individuals who were involved in surgically removing kidneys from hundreds of patients.

These illicit organ transplants were reportedly carried out to meet the demands of wealthy individuals in need of kidney transplants.

The alleged mastermind of the organ harvesting ring, known as “Dr. Fawad,” is accused of conducting a staggering 328 such surgeries and selling the harvested kidneys for exorbitant prices, reaching as high as $34,000 (approximately Rs 28.27 lakh).

The revelation came from Mohsin Naqvi, the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province. Mr. Naqvi further disclosed that during these surgeries, Dr. Fawad had the assistance of an unnamed car mechanic who administered anesthesia.

According to the Chief Minister, members of the criminal gang enticed patients away from hospitals and conducted these surgeries in private settings, primarily in Lahore or Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The choice of PoK as a location for these procedures was driven by the absence of specific laws regulating kidney transplants in the region, making it easier for the gang to carry out their operations there.

While authorities have confirmed three deaths linked to these illegal surgeries, they are still in the process of verifying additional cases.

Mr. Naqvi stated, “There must be more operations that must have been carried out, the number is the only ones we’ve confirmed.”

Shockingly, some victims who had their kidneys harvested were unaware that their organs had been removed.

Dr. Fawad’s arrest marked the fifth time he had been taken into custody for similar offenses, but he had managed to secure his release on each occasion and continue his illegal activities, according to the politician.

The police became aware of the organ trafficking ring when a man approached them, reporting that he had been persuaded by one of the gang members to seek private medical treatment. Subsequently, when he consulted another doctor, he was informed that he no longer possessed one of his kidneys.

Following this complaint, the police initiated a comprehensive two-month-long investigation that ultimately led to the arrest of the individuals involved in this heinous criminal enterprise.
