South Korean Worker Crushed to Death by Industrial Robot During Inspection

A South Korean man lost his life as he was crushed by an industrial robot during an inspection at a distribution center for agricultural produce in South Gyeongsang province.

The unfortunate accident occurred when the robot, which was responsible for handling boxes of bell peppers, failed to distinguish the worker from the produce boxes, as reported by the Yonhap news agency.

The victim, a worker in his 40s employed by a robotics company, was in the process of inspecting the robot’s sensor operations when the horrifying incident took place.

It appears that the industrial robot malfunctioned, mistakenly identifying the man as one of the produce boxes. As a result, the robot’s robotic arm forcefully pushed the man’s upper body against a conveyor belt, causing severe injuries to his face and chest. Despite being quickly transferred to the hospital, the worker tragically succumbed to his injuries.

This unfortunate event is a painful reminder of the potential risks associated with the use of industrial robots in various sectors. Tragically, incidents like this have occurred in the past, highlighting the importance of safety protocols and the need for constant vigilance when working with automated machinery.

In a similar incident earlier this year, a South Korean man in his 50s sustained serious injuries after becoming trapped by a robot while working at an automobile parts manufacturing plant. These incidents underscore the critical importance of implementing safety measures and ensuring worker protection in industrial settings.
