Violence-Hit Nigeria: 10 Farmers Brutally Beheaded by Suspected Islamist Militants.
In a horrific incident that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s northern state of Borno, at least 10 farmers were brutally beheaded by Islamist militants.
The attack, suspected to be the work of the notorious Islamist group Boko Haram, occurred in Kawuri village of Konduga local government area on Monday morning.
The assailants, riding on motorbikes and carrying rifles, descended upon the farmers’ farms, leaving a trail of terror and devastation in their wake.
Abubakar Masta, a farmer who managed to escape the horrifying attack, recounted the heart-wrenching scene he witnessed. “I saw 10 corpses of my friends who were slaughtered,” he said, while security officials worked to recover the lifeless bodies.
The attack follows a recent wave of violence in Borno state, where last week, militants killed at least 25 people and injured several others in attacks on two villages. Borno has been a hotbed for insurgency, serving as the epicenter of a decade-long insurgency that has extended into neighboring Chad and Cameroon.
The finger of suspicion points towards Boko Haram, a ruthless Islamist extremist group known for its violent campaigns targeting civilians. However, the Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP), a regional affiliate of the Islamic State, is also active in the region, adding to the complexity of the security situation.
The relentless killings of farmers by the militants have not only resulted in loss of lives but also disrupted farming activities in several villages. This disruption poses a grave threat to food security, potentially leading to an increase in food prices in a country already grappling with double-digit inflation.
As authorities investigate the horrifying incident, the nation mourns the loss of innocent lives, and communities remain on high alert for further attacks.
