WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging app owned by Meta, has introduced an exciting new feature that allows users to send and receive real-time video messages in their chats.

The feature, which is similar to the existing voice note feature, enables users to record and share short video messages of up to 60 seconds duration. What’s more, these video messages come with end-to-end encryption, ensuring user privacy.

Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg announced the new feature in a Facebook post, highlighting its simplicity and ease of use.

He stated, “New for WhatsApp — we’re adding the ability to instantly record and share a video message in your WhatsApp chats. It’s as easy as sending a quick voice message.”

In a blog post, WhatsApp shared more details about the feature, emphasizing its versatility in adding a personalized touch to various occasions. Users can now use the real-time video messages to send birthday wishes, share good news, or convey important information in a more engaging and dynamic manner.

The rollout of the feature has already begun, and it will soon be available to all WhatsApp users globally. To access the new video messaging feature, users can manually update the app by downloading the latest version from the Google Play Store or App Store.

Sending a video message on WhatsApp is a straightforward process. Users need to tap and hold the icon to the right of the text field to switch to video mode. From there, they can swipe up to lock and record the video, just like they do with voice notes. By default, the video message will play automatically without sound when the recipient opens it in the chat. However, tapping on the video will activate the sound, allowing the recipient to hear the message.

This new feature is the latest in a series of updates rolled out by WhatsApp in recent months. Previously, the app introduced the ability to automatically silence calls from unknown numbers, giving users more control over their communication. Another update allowed users to edit a message within 15 minutes of sending it, correcting any mistakes or errors. Additionally, WhatsApp is reportedly working on giving usernames to users on the platform, enhancing user identification and interaction.

With the introduction of the real-time video message feature, WhatsApp continues to enhance its platform and provide users with innovative and engaging ways to communicate with their friends and family. The end-to-end encryption ensures that users can share their moments and important messages with confidence, knowing that their privacy is protected.

As the rollout of the feature continues, WhatsApp users can look forward to more dynamic and expressive conversations with their loved ones, making their interactions even more memorable and enjoyable.
