Reactions As Police Tear-Gas Peter Obi Supporters At Ebonyi Rally.
Citizens of Ebonyi who went out for a rally in support of the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, were on Saturday teargassed by the police in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, in South-East Nigeria.
These Labour Party and Peter Obi supporters had gathered along Mile 50 to embark on a rally to canvass support for their candidate but were stopped from going into the streets.
One of the supporters who spoke to Channels Television, Nwali Ikechukwu, said some persons were injured when the security agency came calling.
On Facebook and Twitter, many people have reacted to what they saw as intolerance and the high-handedness of the ruling APC in Ebonyi state. Read some of the reactions below;
A page named ‘Obi-dient Youth Movement’ wrote;
“Sad one the Nigerian Police are currently shooting tear gas on at abakaliki obidients right now in Ebonyi State. #OneMillionMarchForObiAndDatti”
Another observer, Ade Damola noted;
“APC states are the most viciously opposed to Obi campaigns and yet they are the ones that claim to be most confident of their babas win.
“Kaduna, lagos and now Ebonyi”
One other observer remarked saying that;
“It appears they have started the Abacha ruthlessness already oo. I am hearing that Ebonyi State Governor is using security operatives to stop the Obidient rally in the State.
I thought he said there are no Obidients in Ebonyi.
Why go to this length to stop the rally of those that don’t exist 🤣🤣🤣”, referring to a recent statement by Shettima, the APC VP Candidate who said Tinubu will rule with Abacha’s ruthlessness.
Meanwhile, When Channels Television tried to reach the spokesman for the Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Chris Anyanwu, he could not be immediately reached for comments.
