A woman on vacation aboard a cruise ship had a harrowing experience when she fell from the 10th deck, but was fortunately rescued by the US Coast Guard.

According to NBC News, the incident occurred near the Dominican Republic. On Sunday, the Coast Guard received a distress call at 5:44 pm (local time) to rescue the 42-year-old American woman, who was traveling on the Mariner of the Seas cruise ship.

The ship was approximately 27 nautical miles south of Punta Cana and en route to Willemstad, the capital of the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao.

The Coast Guard confirmed that the passenger was successfully recovered and found to be in good health after falling into the water from the 10th deck of the ship.

The cruise ship did not request a medical evacuation, and the woman was kept in the ship’s medical facility. Later, she was transferred to a hospital in Willemstad, Curacao, for further evaluation.

The authorities have not disclosed the woman’s identity, but according to Fox News, she spent approximately 45 minutes in the water before being rescued. Royal Caribbean, the cruise ship’s operator, also acknowledged the incident and stated that the guest was safely recovered and receiving assistance from their care team.

Upon being brought back aboard the Mariner of the Seas, the woman was attended to by the ship’s medical team, ensuring she received immediate care. The details surrounding the circumstances of her fall remain unknown.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of swift rescue operations and the dedication of the US Coast Guard to ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals at sea.
