Florida Lottery Ticket Claims Staggering $1.58 Billion Jackpot

A lottery ticket sold in Florida has secured an astonishing jackpot prize of $1.58 billion, making it one of the largest lottery wins globally.

The winning ticket successfully matched all six numbers drawn during the Tuesday night Mega Millions draw: 32, 19, 13, 33, 20, and 14.

However, the specific location of the ticket purchase within the Sunshine State has not been disclosed by lottery authorities. The exact value of the final jackpot prize remains undisclosed at present.

Should the winner opt for a lump-sum payout, the prize amount would be roughly halved to approximately $783.3 million.

Additionally, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) would deduct 24 percent in taxes, resulting in a net prize of $595,308,000 for the winner.

It’s important to note that gambling winnings in the US are subject to mandatory federal withholding taxes.

The state taxation landscape varies across the US, with rates ranging from 2.5 percent in Arizona to 10.9 percent in New York. In this case, the winning ticket was purchased in Florida, which does not impose state taxes on such winnings.

The previous overall winner was crowned on April 18th, underscoring the rarity of such monumental lottery victories.

This massive jackpot is now the third-largest ever recorded in the US lottery’s history, trailing behind the $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot in 2022 and the $1.56 billion prize in 2016, as reported by CBS News.

In addition to the grand prize, seven tickets managed to secure million-dollar prizes. These lucky tickets were sold in various states including Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia.

Mega Millions drawings are scheduled every Tuesday and Friday at 11 pm, with tickets available at a cost of $2 each. However, the odds of clinching the jackpot are exceedingly slim, estimated at approximately 1 in 303 million.
