Newlywed Bride Killed by Shark in Bahamas a Day After Wedding.
Bahamas: A tragic incident took place in the Bahamas where a 44-year-old newlywed bride from Boston was killed in a shark attack while paddle-boarding, just a day after her wedding.
The woman and a male relative were paddleboarding near a resort in western Providence, approximately 3/4 miles from the shoreline, when the shark attacked.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that the female visitor suffered serious injuries to the right side of her body, including the right hip region and her right upper limb. Despite immediate rescue efforts by a lifeguard with a boat, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
The incident occurred near the Sandals Resort on Cable Beach. Sandals Resorts expressed deep sadness over the tragic passing and extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, providing ongoing support during this difficult time.
Fatal shark attacks are rare globally, with an average of five to six reported each year, most commonly occurring in Australia. The Bahamas has recorded 33 unprovoked shark attacks since 1749, according to data from the International Shark Attack File. Last year, there were a total of 57 unprovoked shark bites worldwide, with the majority in the United States.
This incident follows another shark attack where a 26-year-old woman died after a shark tore off her leg while swimming off a Mexican beach, just two days prior. The attack happened near Melaque Beach, resulting in the woman’s death from massive blood loss despite quick rescue efforts. Her daughter, who was with her, miraculously survived.
