"I Was Dismissed for Revealing Truth about Ukraine War," Claims Russian Army General

In a shocking revelation, a Russian army general has alleged that he was fired from his position for speaking out about the reality of the ongoing war in Ukraine and the dire conditions faced by his soldiers on the front lines.

Major General Ivan Popov, who commanded Russia’s 58th Combined Arms Army, made this statement in an audio recording that was released by a Russian lawmaker.

Major General Popov had been in charge of Russia’s troops in the southern Zaporizhzhia region of Ukraine, leading the 58th Combined Arms Army.

In the audio message, believed to be intended for his soldiers but posted on Telegram by Andrey Gurulev, a politician and former deputy commander of Russia’s Southern Military Command, Popov expresses his removal from the position as a consequence of telling the truth.

“The tragedy of the modern war is the lack of counter-battery combat, reconnaissance, and the significant casualties suffered by our comrades due to enemy artillery,” Popov can be heard saying in the audio clip, according to NBC News. He claims that he called things by their proper names, emphasizing the harsh realities of the conflict.

Andrey Gurulev, a member of United Russia, the largest political party in Russia, did not disclose how he obtained the recording.

While the authenticity of the voice message could not be independently verified by Reuters, the news agency reported that Major General Ivan Popov accused the top military leadership of betraying Russian soldiers.

According to Popov, the Ukrainian army failed to break through their ranks on the front lines, but the Russian army was dealt a severe blow by their own leadership, resulting in significant losses. He specifically highlighted the lack of proper counter-artillery systems and reconnaissance of enemy artillery as contributing factors.

As of now, there has been no official response from the Russian defense ministry regarding these allegations.

Lawmaker Andrey Gurulev, known for his hardline stance and frequent appearances on state television, has provided a platform for Major General Popov’s claims, bringing attention to the internal challenges faced by the Russian military in the context of the Ukraine war.
