Trump Refuses to Answer Questions in NY Probe, FBI Raids Trump’s Estate.
FBI agents searched former US President, Donal Trump’s home in Florida as part of a separate investigation looking into possible mishandling of classified documents by the former president, according to several US media outlets.
Trump’s home was raided while he was in Trump Tower, his home and office in Manhattan, New York. According to media reports, he was seen leaving Trump Tower as he entered waiting cars at the time of filing the report.
Trump said his Mar-a-lago home in Florida was raided by a large group of FBI agents, whom he alleges also opened a safe in his home.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to a United States president before. After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate. It is prosecutorial misconduct,” Trump criticised the search in his statement.
Trump Refuses to Answer Questions in NY Probe
Donald Trump has said that he refused to answer questions under oath during an appearance before the New York state attorney general in an investigation into his business dealings.
Trump had appeared at state Attorney General Letitia James’s offices on Wednesday morning to testify in a long-running civil probe of the Trump Organization’s finances.
“I declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution,” Trump said in a statement.
The Fifth Amendment of the US Constitution grants the right to remain silent when questioned by authorities to protect against self-incrimination.
The New York attorney general launched the civil investigation in 2019 after Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen testified in Congress that the ex-president exaggerated his assets “when it served his purposes”.
In all that he has been accused of, the former president has consistently said he has done nothing wrong while accusing the state and fedearl authorities of collusion against him with unfounded claims.
Trump’s bid for the 2024 presidential elections continue to gain momentus as he leads in the polls and most of the Republican candidates he is backing have been winning mid-term elections.
