Video: US Man Threatens To Jump From High-Rise Building After FBI Brings Arrest Warrant.
A dramatic incident occurred in Manhattan on Wednesday as federal agents attempted to serve a search warrant on 35-year-old Ian Mitchell for financial fraud charges.
Mitchell broke a window on the 31st floor of the CitySpire high-rise building and threatened to jump, causing an eight-hour standoff with authorities.
A video of Mitchell’s legs dangling out the window quickly went viral on social media, and negotiations to get him to surrender peacefully failed. As a result, one official rappelled down the side of the building to rescue Mitchell, and he was finally taken into custody after the eight-hour ordeal.
Mitchell was allegedly posing as a wealthy Jamaican investor and had stolen over $158,000 from a businessman and half of an Air Force veteran’s life savings. He has since been taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
