FBI Agrees to Release Extensive Documents on Bola Tinubu, Says Investigative Journalist

In a startling revelation, investigative journalist David Hundeyin has shed light on the extensive documentation held by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Nigerian political figure Bola Tinubu.

Hundeyin’s insights came during his appearance on American Broadcasting Company (ABC) News, where he underscored the remarkable depth of information the FBI possesses about Tinubu.

Hundeyin noted that despite decades of allegations and controversies surrounding Tinubu, he had managed to evade serious scrutiny until recently when pertinent questions started to be raised and pursued.

One notable inquiry revolved around the timing of these alleged actions, with documents suggesting that many of these incidents occurred decades ago. The anchor inquired why Tinubu had successfully avoided legal repercussions, even as recently as the appeal court, which rejected petitions against him.

Hundeyin responded by pointing out that the judiciary’s independence is compromised due to executive control over its finances. He further noted that the courts often fixated on procedural technicalities concerning the submission of evidence rather than delving into the substance of the cases. For instance, he highlighted that a bank account was implicated in a drug trafficking case, even though an account is not a standalone entity.

The conversation then shifted to the purported agreement for the FBI to release Tinubu’s documents and Hundeyin’s role in this development. Hundeyin explained that initially, the FBI declined to release the documents because Tinubu was considered a private citizen.

However, after Tinubu’s announcement as the President of Nigeria by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), his status changed, removing the “private citizen” label.

Together with Aaron Greenspan, owner of Plainsite.org (whose website played a pivotal role in making public court documents detailing Tinubu’s asset forfeiture), Hundeyin and a pro bono lawyer filed Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to secure the release of these documents. After some initial resistance, it was officially announced on September 8 that all six U.S. agencies, including the FBI, CIA, DEA, and IRS, had consented to release these documents.

In a remarkable twist, the FBI pledged to provide 2500 pages of documents on Bola Tinubu, surpassing the volume of records they held on Malcolm X, a historical figure accused of promoting racism and violence in the United States.
