Gunmen Kill Five Policemen and a Couple in Imo State.
In a shocking incident that occurred on April 21, 2023, unknown gunmen killed five policemen and a couple at the Okpala Junction in the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident left the entire community in a state of panic as commercial activities abruptly came to an end.
The couple, Mr. and Mrs. Chinaka Nwagu, who had relocated from Lagos a year ago, were identified as the victims of the attack. According to a source who identified himself as Uche and a relative of the couple, the slain cops drove from the neighboring Abo Mbaise police division to eat at the junction.
While they were eating, the gunmen drove to the scene and opened fire on them.
Three police officers were shot dead at the scene, while two others ran to a nearby shop. However, the gunmen raced to the shop and killed them and also killed the couple who owned the shop. The eyewitness revealed that after killing the policemen, the gunmen carted away their five rifles.
The incident has left the community in shock and confusion, with people running away out of fear. The market has been shut down, and the bodies of the victims have been deposited in a mortuary.
Dominic Okpor, another eyewitness, said that he saw the lifeless bodies of the cops on the road when he drove through the Owerri – Aba Road.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigations are ongoing to identify the gunmen and bring them to justice.
