US Woman Admits to Consuming Baby Powder Daily, Sparks Concerns.
A 27-year-old woman from New Orleans, Louisiana, has admitted to consuming an entire bottle of Johnson’s Aloe & Vitamin E baby powder every day, spending a staggering $4,000 on her unusual habit this year alone.
Dreka Martin, a mother of one, claims that her affinity for the powder began innocently, tasting it after showering her children, but eventually turned into a daily craving.
Mrs. Martin, a makeup artist, confessed to eating a 623g (22 oz) bottle of baby powder daily and expressed a preference for it over “normal food.” She revealed that she began this daily routine in January, spending approximately $14 on a bottle each day. Despite concerns from friends and family about potential health issues, she insists that she has not experienced any adverse effects on her health or digestion.
Johnson’s, the manufacturer of the baby powder, explicitly states that it is designed “for use on the skin only” and issues a caution against ingestion. However, Mrs. Martin claims she has pica, an eating disorder characterized by compulsions to consume non-food items. She admits to attempting to conceal her addiction from loved ones, expressing disappointment when faced with judgment.
The makeup artist acknowledges her addiction but emphasizes the difficulty of stopping, stating, “It’s an addiction that I try to stop, but I just can’t. When I think about it, my mouth waters. It’s gotten to the point where I eat baby powder, and I don’t even care about eating real food.”
Despite concerns that her son may emulate her behavior, Mrs. Martin shows no intention of discontinuing her consumption of baby powder. Friends and family continue to express worry and encourage her to stop, but the unusual eating habit persists, raising questions about the potential health implications of such practices.
